Data storage and retention

Where your data lives
Live systems run in the Middle East, close to the people using them. Backups are held in Europe, so a problem affecting one region does not affect both.
While your account is open
We keep your documents, the details read from them, and the images themselves for as long as your account is open. You can see them in the dashboard at any time.
When you close your account
Access ends immediately and your data enters a 30-day hold. If you tell us within those 30 days that it was a mistake, we can restore everything. After 30 days, documents, images and personal details are permanently deleted.
What we keep afterwards, and why
One thing survives deletion: our own record of what you were billed — the amount, the month, and whether it was paid. It carries no vendor, no document, no phone number and no name. Your documents are not part of it. They are deleted with everything else at the end of the 30-day hold. UAE law requires you to keep your own commercial records for five years, and Extracto has no download — ask us on WhatsApp for a copy well before you close your account.
Usage data
Usage data is not a financial record. It is deleted on a rolling basis, and we delete it sooner on request.
Backups
Backups are overwritten on a rolling schedule. Data deleted from the live system disappears from backups as those roll over, within a short period rather than immediately.
